SEBASTIAN VALE
Sebastian Vale is Sofie’s retired grandfather and the owner of Mariner’s Rhyme, the secluded old house at Beacon Point where the pair live overlooking the ocean on the outskirts of Pretty City. Highly intelligent, remarkably observant and still in excellent physical condition, Sebastian seems to be enjoying a quiet retirement - although exactly what he retired from is surprisingly difficult to pin down. Even Sofie has never been entirely certain what her grandfather once did for a living, though she remembers some decidedly unusual guests attending dinner at Mariner’s Rhyme when she was a child. Sebastian rarely volunteers much about his past, and when pressed has a remarkable talent for answering questions without actually answering them. Whatever life he led before retirement, there are occasional hints that Sebastian Vale was once considerably more than he appears to be.
