PART 1 OF EACH STORY - LAUNCHING LATE OCTOBER AND NOVEMBER 2026
MAIR MADDOX
Mair Maddox - known to everyone at the BASE simply as Mom - is the school cook, Bryn Maddox’s wife and an Animalist with an extraordinary affinity for the animal world. She can sense and communicate with animals, calm or influence them, call upon nearby creatures for assistance and temporarily borrow limited animal traits such as heightened hearing, scent, night vision, reflexes or strength, although she cannot physically transform into one. Warm, easy-going and endlessly tolerant of the students she affectionately regards as a pack of messy animals, Mair appears to be in her fifties, but like Bryn, there are hints that she may be considerably older than she looks. Her connection to wildlife also makes her an unexpected early-warning system: when the birds stop singing and the animals disappear, Mom knows something is wrong.
